Good News/Bad News

Just when you think that it could not get any worse, you switch on the news.

CTV news in Barrie has just announced the cracking of a huge child porn operation.  As many as 340 children have been victimized.

Some of the perpetrators are teachers, medical professionals, and priests.  Many live in Ontario.  Some reside out of province.  Many are from The States and overseas.

Our children are not safe with anyone other than a trusted family member, it seems.

One might argue that this sort of thing has always existed.  Perhaps it has, but the Internet has provided the means to spread this plague.

Surely there must be a way to hold the internet provider responsible for its client's business when using its service in a manner that is unlawful?

Should our schools be teaching virtues and morals from a young age onward?  Obviously a sense of decency is more valuable than any education...

Keep your babies close, parents.  Watch them like hawks.  Listen to your gut feelings.  Know who is caring for them.

  1. Although I would never EVER condone their deviant behavior many, if not all, of these perpetrators have likely been victims of childhood sexual abuse. Thank heavens they were caught, but without reprogramming their hypothalami (which can take years with specialists...or may never happen), I don't think it is likely they will stop. This leads me to say something quite uncharacteristic. The death penalty comes to mind.

    1. I hear Jamaica at one time has a swift cure for this sort of thig...if you can believe everything you hear. Amputation of both arms and another part...you guess. I hear it is quite effective!

  2. This makes me very sad. The cycle has to be broken otherwise it will keep going on. Who can we trust? All this has been programmed early in the perpetrator 's psyche and it grows like mildew and spread. What darkness lurks behind closed doors.

  3. It's a very sad,sad situation. the internet allows us to catch more of these sickies.I don't put pictures of children on my blog anymore. It's the home where values have to be taught and modeled. Schools have their job. Parents have theirs.

    1. I agree that it is the parents job, Red, but it is obviously not being done at home. I feel that schools need to pick up the slack. I have seen some of the homes where my children's friends grew up. Horrible!

  4. A "trusted family friend" can be the abuser. My mother's cousin and favorite relative abused my little brother.

    1. I agree, Linda. I have heard that story many times. What can we do?

  5. This is so disturbing. I don't watch or listen to any news, i wouldn't be able to make it through the day. it's beyond me how anyone could hurt or abuse a child or any living thing for that matter. and clearly the unfortunate people that are involved were shown no love or respect or they wouldn't be able to do what they do. how do we put an end to this horrific practice? if i had kids, i'm not sure i would let them out into this dark, hate-filled world.

    1. I seldom listen to the news, but things slip through on FB. It's enough to make you want to bury your head in the sand. I think we are at war in this country. Our children are the victims.
